Learn how to play Dgembe!

LESSONS INCLUDE LEARNING:

• Basic playing strokes for the Dgembe
• Extended playing strokes using Indian and Middle Eastern playing techniques.
• Learn traditional West African Ghanian polyrhythms and grooves
• Learn how to play the Gonqoukui, the Ghanian bell.

• BASIC & EXTENDED TECHNIQUES:
  Learn basic and extended techniques and the appropriate drum language for each drum.

• DRUMMING FUNDAMENTALS & PRACTICE SKILLS
  Learn how to  create a practice routine that produces results! We will learn Marla’s 3 part practice routine, that includes discipline, routine and lots of fun!

• SOLKATTU THEORY & EXERCISES:
  Solkattu phrases and how to use it in your drumming playing – Plus, Solkattu exercises help build your sense of rhythm! (like eating your veggie)

• THE ART OF IMPROVISING:
  Practical & fun applications to improvise in ANY meter (OMG I sooo love this topic) – using theory from traditional North and South Indian Drumming

• COMPOSING & NOTATING:
  YES – there is a composer in everyone. Weather you are a seasoned musician or a newby, everyone has the creativity in them to create their own music. You will learn fun techniques to compose and notate for frame drums

• HOMEWORK

   FUN Homework is given after every session
