1 – DRUMMING INCREASES INTUITION & BRAIN ACTIVITY!
Drumming produces rhythmic energy.
Why? When we drum, we are using both our right and left brain hemispheres.
Not only intuition is benefited, but self –awareness is directly affected as the act of drumming generates NEW neural connections ~ AND ~ NEW ways of living!
Music, especially drumming, affects some of the brain’s learning capacities, increasing the size of the auditory and motor cortex.
The repetition of sound can help to block out the left brain’s tendencies to continually process and evaluate environmental stimuli which allow you to momentarily dismiss your worries, concerns, stresses, and other busy thoughts.
From a study by Barry Quinn, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist specializing in neuro-biofeedback therapy for stress management, demonstrated a brief drumming session can DOUBLE one’s alpha brain wave activity, dramatically reducing stress ~ YES!

2 -DRUMMING REDUCES ANXIETY & DEPRESSION!
Ever noticed how freakin’ good you feel after drumming?
Seriously, after picking up a drum for only a few moments, I notice my energy shifts!
I feel more awakened and alive, in the present moment!
WHY IS THIS?
Drumming promotes the production of endorphins and endogenous opiates, the bodies own morphine-like painkillers, and can thereby help in the control of pain.
Drumming helps us lift our mood and creates “happy” endorphins!
Happiness is one of the keys to a good life!
3 – DRUMMING ACTIVATES THE BRAIN LIKE NO OTHER!
Drumming tends to increase the number of Alpha brain waves present – which alchemically, helps us to enter a RELAXED altered state of consciousness (my personal favorite.)
When we play a rhythm for a long time, we are able to get into a space of “entrainment” – an altered state of consciousness!
I love to play a simple rhythm for a long time, and experience the medicine of entrainment!
It’s easy to experience: Groove out on a rhythm for a few minutes, and notice how you feel!
Also, when we drum, we are using our left and right hands…and there for ACTIVATING our right and left brain hemispheres. This action helps produce “dopamine” – the “happy endorphins”, and also acts as “fish oils’ for our brain, and makes us smarter!
That is why DRUMMING is used as outpatient therapy for depression, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
On a personal note, my wonderful father passed from Parkinson’s. When I visited him during his years when he was really suffering from this illness, I would bring my DRUMS with me. I gave him my drum to play .. and he had an amazing sense of time.. and you could just see his spirit LIT UP when he drummed! He was JOYOUSLY GROOVING, it was amazing!
This gave me further faith in the healing power of the drum!
