3 PROBLEMS (with easy SOLUTIONS)
THAT PREVENT STUDENTS TO BEGIN A DRUM PRACTICE!!
PROBLEM 1 –
YOU DON’T OWN A DRUM!
Ive heard the story over and over again, “ I don’t have a drum, so I cant drum. But one day, I will get one, one day”
Well, my friends, that one day may never come. You may use this “excuse” for life.
And do you realy want to wait until your next re-incarnation to begin drumming?
SOLUTION:
The truth is you can begin your practice TODAY, right NOW?
HOW?
Go in your kitchen, get a pot!
Or find your last amazon box – And play those!
YES, your house hold items make for great first drums, and will also inspire you to get a drum, sooner then later.
Some of my most respected drum teachers would groove out on boxes (Glen Velez) and Pots and Pans (John Bergamo).
You have rhythmic inspiration all around you.
What can you tap on that makes a cool sound? Explore! Have fun!
Don’t believe me?

PROBLEM 2:
YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT PLAY ON YOUR DRUM!
So, you don’t know what to play, eh?
Just JAM.
Yes, you heard me.
JAM!
SOLUTION:
You see, we all have rhythm inside of us.
We are born immersed in rhythm, as it is the first sound we hear while we are in our mother’s womb.
We live and breathe in rhythm.
We are rhythmic beings.
SO PICK UP A DRUM TODAY AND JUST PLAY.
Simply close your eyes and see what rhythms flow!
Have an open mind, that of a curious of child.
I DARE YOU!
For extra inspiration, you can put on your favorite piece of music and play along with it!
PROBLEM 3:
YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPACE TO PLAY IN!
I know that finding a place that you can unleash your wildness and rhythmic delights may be challenging.
SOLUTION:
Maybe there is a time when no-one is home that you can play?
Maybe you ask your family or housemates that you want to create a “music play space” in your house!
If either of those options do not work, then simply GO OUT SIDE AND PLAY!
DRUMS love nature!
DRUMS have been played outside for thousands of years..
DRUMS are in their element when being played outdoors.
I personally gain super woman MASSIVE inspiration when I bring my drum into nature and play.
NOW – DO YOU FEEL RHYTHMICALLY INSPIRED?
I hope that this has inspired YOU to begin (or re-kindle) your drumming practice!
